Projects for Pennies

30 Jul

Set off by the continuing SillyBandz craze and having no impetus to invest in traditional pieces, I’ve been seeking out and making projects that are as inexpensive as they come. Here are 3 to try out yourself:

Try mixing DIY decoupage paper earrings (instructions here, and they really are that easy) with Elsa Peretti Diamonds by the Yard. It will cost you $5 for a small container of Modge Podge, a few cents for the earring fasteners, and you likely have magazines, a brush and card stock lying around already.

As modeled by my African statues.

But look, they really are wearable.

Try stacking 10 cent plastic rings from Toy Joy with precious gemstone bands…

Try knotting free plastic bracelets that come holding your dry cleaning together with contrasting cuffs (vintage Escada and lucite by Alexis Bittar).

Note: Pick one of the above. Combining all three may be too Betsey Johnson for many of us (though I do love her and more to come on her very pink recent project later).

Not many people know about how fabulous mod podge is! I used to cover old gerber baby food jars with funky wallpaper or wrapping paper in high school and gift them – the do it yourself earrings are definitely worth trying, thanks 🙂
