DIY Knotted Neckline

19 Jul

Stumped by what to do with some oddly shaped vintage scarves, I created a 2 minute fabric knotting project.

Back Knot Placement

Side Knot Placement

For a step-by-step scarf how-to,

Step 1: Fold the scarf whatever way yields the longest worm-like shape.

Step 2: Create the first knot in the center of the fabric.

Step 3: Create subsequent knots moving outward, alternating sides as to make sure they are even.

Step 4: Stop before you make the final knots on each end. Instead, tie the two ends of fabric together in a single knot (makeshift clasp) around your neck.

Step 5 (optional): Add large ring beads, like the crystal and glass ones in the Renzo silk scarf above, for added interest.

For an even quicker project, add knots to the center of your single or double-stranded pearl, bead and chain link necklaces.

This reminds me of scarf knotted necklaces with big beads I wore when I was little – early 90’s!
